Junhao Ma was born in Urumqi, China, and now lives in San Francisco. His photography grows from movement — from traveling through places that feel both familiar and far. He works across landscape, automotive, and portrait photography, seeking the quiet point where light, time, and presence meet.
What interests him is not the scene itself, but the feeling that lingers inside it — the way light traces over a mountain ridge, a car door, or a person’s face, carrying the same calm rhythm. He is drawn to how man-made shapes and natural forms echo each other, and how stillness can exist even within motion.
His images often come from roads and open spaces, but what he truly searches for is a sense of distance — the space between people and their surroundings, between the outer world and the inner one. To him, photography is a quiet way of paying attention.
